The Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) System is a nationally recognized skills training and certification system for the Landscape Industry. The WSQ is developed based on adult learning principles and adopts a training and certification approach of job competencies. This will enable training and certification relevant for the job.

 
 

The WSQ Diploma in Landscape Management (Landscape Design and Construction) is specially designed for Landscape Managers in the field of Landscape design and construction sector, existing practitioners and mid-career switches who aspire to build a career in the landscape design and construction sector of the Landscape industry. These programs include environmental courses that cover topics like soil and plants, as well as courses on landscaping techniques, such as construction and irrigation where they provide conceptual plans in the coordination of implementation of landscape projects. To achieve a Full WSQ Qualification of Certificate in Landscape Operations, the trainee will have to be certified competent in 7 Core WSQ units, 5 Sector Core WSQ units and 1 Elective WSQ units.

LS-HS-401C-1 Interpret the principles of botany and plant physiology as applied to horticulture practices

Competencies Trained and Assessed

  • Identify basic cell structure and tissue types in plants
  • Identify the factors that affect plant growth rates
  • Define the major plant physiological reactions and processes in relation to plant growth
  • Differentiate the relationships between the process of photosynthesis and environmental conditions and horticultural practices
  • Differentiate the relationships between the process of respiration and control factors
  • Describe and observe plant growth responses relating them to plant cultural practices
