Singapore Tree Climbing Championship Guidelines |
 |
The format of STCC and the climbing skills that are tested are benchmarked with the International Tree Climbing Championships managed by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Contestants are required to demonstrate tree climbing skills by performing tasks such as Work Climb, Aerial Rescue, Throwline, Belayed Speed Climb and Secured Footlock. |
|
|
The categories are:
- Work Climb - Using a tree-climbing rope and saddle, contestants are required to move to various stations in a tree to perform specific tasks. Contestants are judged on safety, technique and poise in the tree. Each station is worth designated points and penalty points may be deducted if unsafe climbing practices are observed.
- Aerial Rescue - A simulated rescue event, contestants are timed as they carry out an aerial rescue of a ‘dummy' injured tree climber in a tree.
- Throwline - This tests the contestants' ability to accurately throw a weight, attached to a rope, through targets placed in a tree.
- Belayed Speed Climb - Contestants are timed as they speed climb up to the top of a tree on a belay (controlling the rope fed out to a contestant by another tree climber).
- Secured Footlock - Contestants are required to perform a vertical ascent up a rope using the footlocking technique.
