CUGE launches new WSQ Programme

There is an increasing demand from the public for the provision of high quality and safe park facilities.  To cater to this demand and raise the safety inspection and maintenance standards of park facilities, CUGE has launched the competency based WSQ module “Implement Inspection and Maintenance Programme for Park Assets, Playgrounds and Facilities (Level 2) Programme”.   CUGE has worked actively to map this programme onto the landscape WSQ framework so that companies can send their staff for skills upgrading at a very affordable price of $100 for a 4-day training programme.

The module was piloted from 22 – 25 Sep 2009 with 16 participants from the industry and NParks.  A technical site inspection was conducted at the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden and the practical assessment was held in West Coast Park.   The four day module involved intensive practical inspection sessions and at the end of the course, trainees were to have developed the following competency elements:

1)        Ability to determine implementation requirements of park assets, playgrounds and facilities inspection procedures.

2)        Ability to implement an asset management programme for park facilities and playgrounds.

3)        Ability to comply with auditing and reporting practices and procedures.

This is a pilot run for this Sector Core module under the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Landscape Supervision.  CUGE will be running this WSQ module twice yearly and NParks Staff who are involved in routine inspection of park facilities are strongly encouraged to attend this programme to develop and build on their competencies.
