CUGE launches new WSQ Module under WSQ Certificate in Landscape Operations

A group of 20 participants joined the first WSQ Check and Report on Park Assets, Playgrounds and Facilities Module from 7 - 9  Sep 2009. Participants learned new application skills and knowledge about routine inspection of assets located in a park and landscape setting to identify visible hazards, check equipment integrity and how to prevent injuries to members of the public.  This is a fundamental skill for park managers who oversee the upkeep of assets in their parks and open green spaces.

The three day module involved intensive role plays, practical inspection sessions and taught trainees to write inspection reports using appropriate terminology.  At the end of the course, trainees had to submit a workplace based project.  This was a pilot run for this elective module under the WSQ Certificate in Landscape Operations.  CUGE will be running this WSQ module twice yearly and NParks Staff who are involved in routine inspection of park assets and facilities are strongly encouraged to attend this programme to enhance their knowledge and skills.  The next workshop is scheduled for 10 – 12 Nov 2009.
