CUGE Workshop on Tree Engineering, Leaf

CUGE held a professional workshop on “Tree Engineering, Leaf and Roots Mechanics”, at the Botany Centre Function Hall (Singapore Botanic Gardens) on 22 - 24 August. Close to 80 certified arborists and tree care practitioners, including 5 from Hong Kong, attended the workshop.

Professor Claus Mattheck, currently both a Professor of Biomechanics in Karlsruhe University and the Head of Department of Biomechanics at the Institute for Materials Research II of the Karlsruhe Research Centre, was invited as our guest speaker. He is a world-renowned expert in the field of tree mechanics and a pioneer in the use of mechanical principles to conduct visual tree assessment.

In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao,Professor Mattheck highlighted that Singapore is undisputedly one of the leading countries when it comes to tree management. He has also commended Singapore in his latest book, "Updated Field Guide for Visual Tree Assessment", for achieving a perfect balance between nature and culture through our Garden City.
