15 Jul 2010 - CUGE Briefing to Landscape Sector on Productivity Roadmap

CUGE conducted a briefing on the Productivity Roadmap to about 70 landscape sector representatives from NParks, DSTA, Surbana, Town Councils, Sentosa Leisure Group, Landscape Industry Association Singapore (LIAS), machinery suppliers and contractors on 7 July 2010 at the Botany Centre Function Hall.  The objective was to update the landscape sector on the findings and recommendations from the productivity benchmark study conducted last year by Australian consultant Mr David Vial of Integrated Open Space Services (IOSS) and introduce the roadmap ahead and sources of assistance available from the Government.

Dr Leong Chee Chiew, Deputy CEO(PDS) NParks, welcomed the participants and said that it was important for the labour-intensive landscape sector to increase its productivity through mechanization, skills training, etc.   Mr David Vial of IOSS, Mr Tan Lin Teck from the Secretariat for the National Productivity and Continuing Education Council and Mr Neil Power, Assistant Director/CUGE Career Centre, also spoke at the briefing.  Also present were representatives from e2i and trade union Building Construction and Timber Industries Employees’ Union (BATU).  CUGE was also honoured to have Mr Heng Chee How, Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, and Executive Secretary, BATU, at the briefing.
